Do Liquid Diets Cleanse the Body? Yes and no. I indicate on this site that they do because I aim to be very thorough in explaining how, why and what.
The body is a complex system of organs, pathways, membranes, entries, exits and biological machinery that to this day is still not completely understood. Many people have a rather simplistic idea of the body as being able to be “rinsed out” which is simply not true.
Many products seem to imply that one can cleanse their bodies of “toxins” and “impurities” by drinking an abundance of fluids or by consuming certain trendy extracts and supplements. The last part may occasionally be true to an extent, however…
Drinking a lot of fluids does not necessarily cleanse, detoxify or otherwise clean the body.
Think of an aquarium pump/filter. Water is constantly passing through it yet you still have to hand clean the filter and various parts. Some parts accumulate more algae, some accumulate lime, some both, and so on. The body is like this times 100! Not to mention, unlike the water in the pump/filter, the water we ingest doesn’t travel through many of our bodily systems, and the ones it does, it is indirect, passing through membranes, being carried by organelles, osmosing and changing every step of the way.
Another thing is that certain “impurities” in the body are not readily removed by relatively puny water molecules. Think of a greased casserole dish with warm running water slowly trickling over it. Some of the harder greases seem like it will never come off. You may run your city out of water before its clean.
Which liquids Diets cleanse the body?
Cranberry Juice is loaded with antioxidants and is almost as good at fighting Urinary Tract Infections as antibacterials. It is one of the best cleansers if you have a UTI
Also, cranberries are an excellent source of flavonoids and phenolic acids. Both are powerful phytochemicals. Studies indicate that the flavonoids in cranberries all work together to inhibit the growth of certain types of cancer cells.
Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar can contain anywhere from 1 to 11% acetic acid, as it is vinegar, though most will contain 3-8%.
If you drink it straight (which many do) use a straw as it is acidic and can erode your teeth.
Vinegar is diarrhetic which is where much of its cleansing properties come from. Like apple juice ACV also contains pectin.
But this vinegar has even more benefits up its sleeve. Apple cider vinegar is good for leg cramps and the pain associated with them, stomach discomfort, high blood pressure and even has benefits when it comes to arthritis.
It also has vitamins B-1, B-2, and B-6, biotin, folic acid, niacin, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), potassium, calcium, iron, phosphorous and magnesium.
ACV has been used as a treatment for acne which as well as being anti-bacterial, it is also a skin toner, it is a somewhat effective remedy for shingles, a means of relief from insect bites (though more known for taking the sting out of jellyfish stings), and to prevent dandruff. It is said to temporarily relieve sore throats as well.
Some say it can slow the aging process, regulate blood pressure, reduce cholesterol, and fight infection. There isn’t a lot of research on these last few claims.
Cleanses by increasing urination to reduce the amount of water retained by the body, which isn’t as ideal as burning fat, though it is effective in cycling out fluids accumulated in the digestive system.
Lemon is also used to cure scurvy when the body doesn’t have enough vitamin C and the gums turn black. Lemon is a good source of vitamin C, it is used to treat tinnitus, Meniere’s disease, and helps alleviate kid. It is also used to aid digestion, reduce pain and swelling (inflammation) and improve the function of blood vessels.
CLOUDY apple juice, according to leading medical researchers has more polyphenols than clear apple juice
Polyphenols are known to have antioxidant and other health benefits. Antioxidants prevent free radical damage and have been shown to reduce the likelihood of cancer and other illnesses. Many believe clear apple juice is purer, though they are forgetting that it is not a given that the substances found in a whole fruit are all clear or “clean looking.”
Apple juice like all juices may contain added sugar, I’ll never understand why. Mott’s 100% Apple Juice contains 28 grams of sugar per 8 fl oz serving. That’s more than most sodas (Coke has 29g per 12 oz)
So if you are adding this to your weight loss program (and if you’re getting recipes off of our weight loss drinks page, you’re going to be enjoying your share of this wonderful health juice.)
